Life near the Arctic Circle makes a person think about how we define the seasons. For those who live in more temperate locations, the calendar tells us that the solstices and the equinoxes are the dates that mark the change of season. But for anyone who lives near the arctic circle, there might be reason to consider a different marker for seasonal change.

The reasoning I use is based on the idea that summer solstice is referred to as mid-summer's eve in some parts of the north.
