Doug, How about a Logo with Northern Lights??? It just popped into my mind as I was working on my blogs. I'm not sure i have such an image but I might be able to find one. AlaskaRadar

That image by Faith is good, Ithink the background is a little plain. maybe a black 'night' background with north star? (or something of the sort..) Radar

While I'm here I'll ask: If I want to clean out a category and remove it from the category index, can that be done? I created one that I don't think will be useful. --Doug 18:12, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Hi. I saw this question at the Central Wikicity. To delete a category, you need to remove it from any articles it is on, and then click the delete link on the category itself. Angela. 20:53, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm confused... as I have written this piece in other places this morning already... but am not seeing now where thoes entries were made... and I didn't find this one until after the fact. Sorry to see the old school came down. Sounds like it's making way for new and good things though. We keep pluging way, adding and changing stuff but it seems that this place is our own little secret. I don's suppose you get access to any of the traffic statistics? I would be keen to see how many page view it's getting. It still comes up about first on a google of "alaska wiki". If we had a little more server side controle of it I would suggest trying to get some database entries of people who live in the AK and do a bulk email; no one likes spam but we need a way to get the word out there. www.alaskawiki.com is now sold to a company in Oregon. It's always the way a? One checks to see if a domain is available and then you keep checking back untill it's gone , then you kick yourself for not having acted sooner. Ah well. - I don't know what the trafffic stats are, but it would be interesting to get some information about that. As for promotion, have you given any thought to a letter to the editor for the major population centers in the state, Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Nome, etc.? Seems like a way to get a lot of people to hear about it, but I don't know how much interest it would generate. I've told people, and so far only one person has jumped in. From the Mission Statement: "The Alaska Wikia features information about the physical, social, and cultural landscape of Alaska. It features information about Alaska that highlights both personal and scientific knowledge about the 49th state. The Alaska Wikia will inform visitors, researchers, and residents interested in learning more about this unique and diverse geographic region."
It's true that the wiki has been inactive. But it wasn't abandoned. If you have new information about Alaska, feel free to add it. The edits made to the main page were not germane to the wiki's focus.
